An offhanded comment from an adult male after talking about the injuries that NFL players constantly face: “If I have a son, I don’t want him playing football.”

Yes, but…if you have a daughter? Who, conceivably, before the pros (especially in high school where every damn 15-year-old looks the same, all genders included) could play football?

Point being: We societally assume that football players are always male, despite the fact that there are girls who play in middle school, high school, and (rarely) even college. Maybe we shouldn’t make that assumption.

On another note, though: Football is dangerous, kids. Brain damage. Broken bones. Talk to your doctor.
