A story from a female friend:

A man she had been going on dates with decided to end things because she was “too independent.”

She told me, “[Well, of course] I’m independent–because I don’t have a significant other to be codependent with. Like, if I was codependent [with this guy right] now, I would be considered clingy, right?

“I forgot in relationships it’s the man who gets to be independent and career-driven and have a strong personality. We can’t have two of those in a couple, can we?”
